Following on from our feature early last month, we can now take a look at the new womenswear pieces from YMC.
Since they originated in 1995, over-time they’ve evolved and progressed leading them to a current state where they are widely regarded as one of the high end contemporary fashion industry’s most creative, reliable and top quality brands.
For us, part of the appeal of You Must Create, aside from the premium quality of their garments, is the era’s and situations they draw reference from and also the simplicity or as they put it ‘positive rejection of the smug artificial cosiness of globalised, sanitised design’ which gives off a certain kind of humorous charm that draws you to invest in the brand.
The YMC AW’11 collection is the debut collection for the brand from highly regarded womenswear designer Sofia Prantera, formerly of cult London label Silas and Maria.
Using a quite rigid menswear fabric aesthetic that is what we come think of as typical of YMC, combined with more traditionally feminine materials such as silk and velvet which balance the collection making them casual in a quite modern manner, also referencing 80′s fashion and old fashioned Victorian styles of dress.
With selected pieces from the collection now available, including personal favourites, the ‘Mini Check Country Shirt’, ‘Multi Stripe Dress’ and also, the ‘Cable Crew Neck Knit,’ you can take a look below at some images from of pieces at Ideology from the YMC AW’11 womenswear collection.
