Dr Martens | Staff Picks

Dr Martens have become an iconic British brand known throughout the world. With over 50 years in the business, Dr Martens have established themselves as one of the finest makers of comfortable and durable footwear. Making boots since 1901, the Northampton based Griggs family came together with Dr Maertens to create a hardwearing shoe with a comfortable air-cushioned sole.  Distinguishable by its welted construction and yellow stitching, the Dr Martens shoe has become a much-loved classic by many.

Dr Martens are constantly linked to stereotypical youth subcultures around the globe and are adopted and adapted by numerous groups. Straying from the classic and instantly recognisable creations, Dr Martens have widened their designs numerous times, including the  mens and womens styles stocked at Ideology Boutique.

The first of our staff picks is the mens Alfred brogue in oxblood. Part of the Windsor collection which uses premium materials to recreate classics, the original brogue style has been given the Dr Martens rework with a leather welt, air-cushioned contrast sole and leather lining for the ultimate comfort. Made from a combination of polished smooth leather and British Millerain Co. sourced waxed cotton along with waxed laces, this luxurious and perfectly shaped shoe is a perfect addition to any outfit, whether it be with a relaxed pair of denims or a full tailored suit.

Our womens Dr Martens pick this week is the Caryn shoe in a beautifully summery navy and white gingham. Made from a micro-gingham canvas upper and 5 eyelet detail threaded with contrasting white laces, this slimmer addition to the Kensington collection is created for both formal and in-formal wear. Created specifically for warmer weather, the cut-out sides add a feminine and contemporary edge, whilst adding to the comfort realised by iconic heat-sealed sole here seen in a clean crisp white.

With these collections Dr Martens have proved that they are still the go to shoe for not only workers and particular sub-cultures, but are a company that caters for a number of people for a number of occasions that will last for years to come.

A.P.C. – The Creation and Production of Clothing | Brand Focus

After spending seven years as a Trotskyist revolutionary, Tunisian-born Jean Touitou created A.P.C. in 1988. Based in Paris, A.P.C. stands for Atelier de Production et de Creation, which translates as ‘the creation and production of clothing’. The brand are known for their effortlessly cool, minimalistic and simple designs, although this doesn’t detract from their attention to detail and the hard-work put into each garment.

Touitou’s main focus is on the fit of each piece and the small design changes that most overlook. Inspired by contrasting styles and the every day, A.P.C. consistently delivers classic styles in flattering and comfortable cuts. From their clean white shirts to their range of well-known denims, A.P.C. are a brand for everyone. As a favourite at Ideology we’ve decided to hand-pick a few current pieces and focus on what makes them stand out from the crowd.

As well as the every day, A.P.C. draws on other classic styles and recreates them seen in pieces such as the Military Jacket in navy. The attention to detail that makes this jacket stand out include a stonewashed navy colour, hidden button closure and and equestrian collar. Keeping branding to a minimum is key, and the A.P.C. engraved buttons ensure that this is present. Made from a cotton and linen blend, this is the perfect transitional jacket to layer up from season to season, such as over the Printed Tee in Framboise. Again another cotton and linen blend, this tee showcases the simple patterns and prints that A.P.C. excel at, becoming extremely understated whilst still standing out in a crowd with the bright raspberry hue. The contrasting white brushstrokes create a flow throughout, which is also seen in the navy colourway.

As well as casual day and evening wear, A.P.C. also never fail to deliver in regards to more tailored garments. The Vintage off-white shirt is made from 100% cotton. With a slightly rounded hem and button down collar and cuffs with tonal horn buttons, this slim fit shirt encompasses the trademark A.P.C. minimalism and looks great with the Pantalon Jean in dark navy. High comfort is found in the Pantalon jean with a classic rise and cotton/elastic blend, making it the perfect go-to for spring/summer. With the classic two side and rear pockets, the shape of these trousers are flattering and easy to dress with a slimline straight leg fit, offering an adequate change from the classic jean.

It is clear that A.P.C. successfully create clothing in a minimalistic and clean cut style that fits in so perfectly with our Ideology aesthetic. From the simple tees in numerous colourways to the sharp tailoring for both day and night, the Parisian based high-end brand never fails to deliver.
